A 50-year-old woman from Lafayette, Indiana, Nathalie Rose Jones, has been arrested for allegedly plotting to kidnap and assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia on August 18, 2025, Jones was taken into custody two days earlier in Washington, D.C., after investigators linked her to graphic social media threats against Trump.

On Facebook and Instagram, Jones reportedly posted disturbing messages, including, “I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disembowelling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present.”

She also referred to an “arrest and removal ceremony” for Trump.

The U.S. Secret Service launched an investigation and interviewed Jones on August 15. During questioning, she allegedly admitted to making the threats and declared she would attempt to kill Trump “if given the opportunity,” citing anger over lives lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, she later recanted, saying she no longer intended to harm him.

Jones has been charged with threatening the life of the president and transmitting interstate communications containing threats to kidnap or injure another person. Both offences carry maximum penalties of up to five years in prison each.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro underscored the gravity of the charges, stating, “Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution.”

Court filings indicate Jones has a history of mental health struggles, which she also referenced in her posts. As of now, it is unclear whether she has secured legal representation.
