The race to the 2026 FIFA World Cup heats up as Nigeria’s Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, unveils a star-studded provisional squad of 31 players ahead of crucial qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa this September.

Harcourt Ebenezer grabs headlines as the only player from the domestic Nigerian Professional Football League, earning his spot among Nigeria’s top goalkeepers. Alongside him, Stanley Nwabali, Amas Obasogie, and Adebayo Adeleye bolster Nigeria’s options between the sticks.

The defensive line-up is stacked with experience and versatility. William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Olaoluwa Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel bring stability, while Bruno Onyemaechi, Igo Ogbu, Chidozie Awaziem, Felix Agu, and Benjamin Fredricks provide additional depth and competition for places.

Midfield remains Nigeria’s engine room, featuring the creative spark of Alexander Iwobi, the calm presence of Wilfred Ndidi, and the energy of Frank Onyeka and Alhassan Yusuf. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Raphael Onyedika and Christantus Uche round out a dynamic selection, blending playmaking vision with defensive grit.
The attacking line is bursting with firepower and flair.

Nigerian fans can look forward to the dazzling runs of Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, and Moses Simon on the flanks, while Victor Osimhen stands ready to spearhead the front line. Victor Boniface, Nathan Tella, Cyriel Dessers, Sadiq Umar, Tolu Arokodare, Terem Moffi, and Akor Adams ensure there are plenty of goal-scoring options as Nigeria targets maximum points in September’s fixtures.

Nigeria faces Rwanda at home on September 6th before traveling to South Africa for a high-stakes encounter on September 9th.
