The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered government-approved relief materials to victims of rainstorm and flooding across communities in Port Harcourt Federal Constituency II, Rivers State.
The distribution, held at Amadi Opara Okokwu Town Hall, was coordinated by NEMA’s Port Harcourt Operations Office under the supervision of its Head, Mr. Eric Ebhodaghe.
While addressing the gathering, Mr. Ebhodaghe passed on the condolences of NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to families who suffered losses during the disaster.
He urged beneficiaries to handle the support materials responsibly, stressing that the assistance was designed to ease their burden and support recovery efforts.
The assistance, consisting mainly of foodstuff, was shared among residents of Elekahia, Ogbunabali, Woji, Ogali, Nchia, and Akpajo communities. The exercise was reported to have proceeded smoothly with active involvement from community leaders, local stakeholders, and residents.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the federal government to reduce the impact of seasonal flooding. Earlier this year, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved ₦15 billion for NEMA’s preparedness measures, a plan announced by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The directive came shortly after devastating floods hit Mokwa in Niger State in May 2025, prompting the activation of the National Emergency Response Centre.
