The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced another hike in the cost of obtaining the Nigerian Standard Passport, barely a year after the last increment.
In a statement on Thursday, the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, confirmed that the new fees will take effect from September 1, 2025, and will apply only to passport applications made within Nigeria.
“The review which only affect Passport Application fees made in Nigeria, now set a new fee thresholds for 32-page with 5-year validity at N100,000 and 64-page with 10-year validity at N200,000,” the statement read.
For Nigerians in the diaspora, however, the fees remain unchanged: $150 for the 32-page, five-year passport and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year passport.
According to the NIS, the latest adjustment is aimed at sustaining the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while ensuring accessibility for citizens.
This development comes just a year after the Federal Government’s previous review, which also took effect on September 1, 2024.
At that time, the 32-page, five-year passport was increased from N35,000 to N50,000, while the 64-page, 10-year booklet doubled from N70,000 to N100,000.
Then, as now, the Immigration Service defended the increment, saying it was necessary to sustain the passport’s quality and improve service delivery.
