What should have been a place of healing turned into a death trap for Miss Dorcas Omotosho, a 26-year-old final-year student of Kogi State Polytechnic, who bled to death after a failed abortion at a questionable private clinic in Lokoja.
The tragic incident happened on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Al-Hassan Clinic and Maternity in Sarkin Noma, Lokoja Local Government Area.
Dorcas, six months pregnant, reportedly sought to terminate the pregnancy at the facility.
While the abortion was carried out, the so-called medical personnel failed to manage complications that followed, ”and she bled to death,” a source confirmed.
According to reports, a police officer was invited to the clinic, where he filmed the deceased before her remains were transported to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Lokoja.
Police arrested the owner of the clinic, who is now being held at the State CID, Lokoja, as investigations intensify into what appears to be a case of gross negligence and unlawful medical practice.
Reacting, the management of Kogi State Polytechnic disclaimed any knowledge of the incident. The Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, said, “The school is not aware because the students are on holiday at the moment.”
This case once again exposes the dangers of unsafe and unregulated abortions in Nigeria, raising urgent questions about medical oversight, enforcement of health standards, and the systemic failures that continue to cost young women their lives.
