The President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, alongside key officials and sports journalists, arrived in Asaba, Delta State, ahead of the 9th edition of the National Youth Games set to begin on today.

The anticipation for Nigeria’s flagship youth sports event surged on Thursday as SWAN President Isaiah Benjamin touched down in Asaba, accompanied by members of the SWAN National Executive Committee (NEC), State Chapter Chairmen, Secretaries, and scores of sports journalists from across the country. According to a statement by SWAN Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, all are now on ground to cover and oversee the Games taking place at various venues around the Delta State capital.

Upon arrival, President Benjamin led an inspection tour of camping sites and competition arenas, noting that activities were gradually picking up and state contingents were settling in ahead of today’s kickoff. Expressing optimism about the caliber of talent on display, he remarked, “This competition is expected to discover young ones for the future. As usual, the stage is set and we expect nothing but a good outing for all participants.

I want to thank God for the safe arrival of all state contingents and officials from the National Sports Commission.” President Benjamin urged his colleagues to uphold journalistic rigor, emphasizing the importance of verifying information before publication and noting that only duly registered Sports Journalists would be accredited to cover the event. Delta State, the defending champion and serial winner, sets the competitive tone for this year’s edition targeted at athletes under 15 years old.
