The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has regained control of Rivers State’s political structure following the just-concluded local government elections.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a landslide victory, clinching 20 out of the 23 local government areas in Saturday’s chairmanship and councillorship polls conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
In contrast, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ruling party in the state, managed to win only three LGAs.
In a major upset, Governor Siminalayi Fubara lost his home base, Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area, to the APC, further strengthening Wike’s grip on the state’s politics.
