The Ife Federal Constituency of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State, has passed a vote of no confidence on the state’s Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi over alleged anti-party activities.
Other party chieftains affected by the vote of no confidence are Professor Wale Oladipo and the Chairman of Ife East local government area, Olasunkanmi Makinde aka Benco.
#Muktv gathered that the decision to pass the no confidence vote was made during a meeting of the party constituency leaders on Monday, September 1, 2025, at the residence of the Osun East PDP Senatorial Leader.
The leaders, in a communique sent to the press, said their decision was necessary in light of what they described as actions capable of threatening the unity and success of the party in Ifeland.
The communiqué stated: “A vote of no confidence is passed on Prof. Wale Oladipo, the Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, and the PDP Chairman of Ife East Local Government, Olasunkanmi Makinde (a.k.a Benco).”
The meeting expressed dissatisfaction with Bimbo Ajilesoro, the member of the House of Representatives for Ife Federal Constituency, who defected from the PDP despite winning his seat on the party’s platform.
According to the communiqué, party leaders strongly condemned the invitation of thugs and hoodlums to the constituency meeting allegedly at the instance of Olasunkanmi Makinde, acting on the instructions of Prof Wale Oladipo.
The meeting had originally been scheduled to take place at the Deputy governor’s residence.
The leaders also criticised what they termed the continued fraternity of Prof Oladipo, Deputy Governor Adewusi, and Makinde with Ajilesoro, despite his defection from the PDP.
Furthermore, the meeting expressed outrage that loyal party members in Ife East, including Lawrence Omotosho, Adeyinka Adeniji (a.k.a Gbogbo Ebe), and Yakubu Olawusi, were being victimised for distancing themselves from Ajilesoro.
The communiqué alleged that these loyal members had been stripped of both government and party positions by leaders in support of the defected lawmaker.
It further noted that party meetings in Ife East Local Government had been suspended under the current leadership, a development the leaders said had weakened grassroots mobilisation and activities in the constituency.
Reacting on the development, the State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi in a statement on Tuesday, called for calm over the development.
Bisi also called on party members in Ife Federal Constituency to suspend former actions capable of escalating the situation.
The statement reads, “The party directs all members and stakeholders in Ife Federal Constituency to immediately suspend further actions capable of escalating the situation. All concerned are hereby instructed to maintain status quo in line with the conflict resolution mechanisms of our party.
The State Chapter of the PDP reiterates its respect and high regard for leaders of the party, particularly His Excellency, Prince Kola Adewusi, Deputy Governor of Osun State, and Prof Wale Oladipo, member of the PDP Board of Trustees. They remain critical pillars of our party, and any grievances directed at them must be channelled strictly through the internal conflict resolution mechanisms of the party, not through unilateral pronouncements or public declarations.”
The party also warned that any action capable of undermining the authority of the party or flouting its rules and procedures will not be tolerated.
He said, “Our party is governed by laws, guidelines, and established processes. Every member is therefore expected to conduct themselves accordingly.”
He revealed that the party is taking immediate steps, summoning concerned stakeholders to a meeting with a view to resolving all issues as members of the same family.
“The Osun PDP strongly urges all contending forces in Ifeland to sheath their swords and embrace peace in the spirit of unity and discipline expected of us by the good people of Osun State,” the statement concluded.
