Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has completed a transfer to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
All eyes were on Iheanacho on transfer deadline day, as it was expected that he would leave Sevilla, as he was deemed as surplus to requirements.
In previous #Muktv reports, the Super Eagles striker who turns 29 in October, had been linked with Turkish Super Lig clubs Besiktas and Samsunspor and Mexican side Pumas UNAM.
Newly-promoted La Liga club Real Oviedo were also linked with Iheanacho, but none of them made a decisive move.
Then, on transfer deadline day, Sevilla announced that they had reached an agreement with Iheanacho to terminate his contract.
That put his future in the air, but that also meant that he could still join any club even if the league’s transfer window had closed.
In a new development, Celtic have now confirmed that the have signed Iheanacho in a one-year deal. There is also an option to extend the deal by one year.
Just like the other top five leagues, the Premiership window closed on Monday. But Iheanacho’s free agent status afforded him the chance to still join Celtic.
Celtic will be Iheanacho’s fifth club after stints at Manchester City, Leicester City, Sevilla, and Middlesbrough. He gets to work under his former Leicester City coach Brendan Rodgers.
The Super Eagles star will be hoping to return to his best and help Celtic retain their Premiership title.
With his transfer to Celtic, Kelechi Iheanacho becomes the third Super Eagles players to join Celtic.
The other two players are Efe Ambrose, who won 47 caps for Nigeria, and Ibrahim Rabiu, who won four caps with the Super Eagles.
