The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Rivers State has confirmed the recovery of a stolen Toyota Camry, thanks to the National Vehicle Identification System (NVIS). The breakthrough came after officials detected inconsistencies during a routine verification process.

Sector Commander, Corps Commander Inyang Umoh, speaking on Friday, September 5, 2025, explained that the car was flagged following checks on its documentation. Investigations revealed the grey Camry had previously been registered under conflicting ownership details and with a different license plate, triggering further scrutiny.

The vehicle was first presented at the FRSC office on August 28, 2025, at about 11:05 a.m. by Mr. Edmund M. Banigo, who requested verification and uploading of its papers into the NVIS database. FRSC operatives promptly noticed irregularities, which eventually led to the vehicle’s identification as stolen property.
Commander Umoh appealed to motorists to ensure proper registration of their vehicles, stressing that the NVIS database not only confirms rightful ownership but also plays a vital role in the fight against vehicle theft. He assured the public that the FRSC remains committed to strengthening its collaboration with security agencies to track down stolen vehicles and promote safety in the state.

He added that the Corps would continue harnessing technology-driven initiatives such as the NVIS platform to build trust, transparency, and efficiency in the nation’s vehicle registration system.
