Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin, insisting that if the Russian leader wishes to engage in talks, he should come directly to Kyiv. The statement underscores the ongoing tensions between the two nations as the war drags on with no immediate signs of resolution.

Speaking to reporters, Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine would not bow to Moscow’s terms or engage on ground dictated by Russia. His firm response signals Kyiv’s continued push to assert its sovereignty and independence in the face of ongoing aggression.

The Ukrainian leader’s stand comes as international efforts for mediation struggle to make headway, with both sides trading blame over the lack of meaningful progress toward ending hostilities. While Russia has positioned itself as open to dialogue, Kyiv maintains that any negotiations must be based on respect for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, including regions currently under occupation.

Zelenskyy’s message  “He can come to Kyiv”  has been interpreted by observers as both a challenge and a symbolic reaffirmation that Ukraine will not leave its capital nor concede ground despite years of conflict. International reactions are expected in the coming days, as global powers continue to grapple with ways to de-escalate the crisis.
