The United States has threatened to revoke the visas of foreigners, including Nigerians, who glorify the assassination of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk on social media.

Christopher Landau, US Deputy Secretary of State, issued the warning on Thursday, stressing that foreigners who promote violence and hatred online would not be welcome in America.

In a post on X, Landau wrote, “In light of yesterday’s horrific assassination of a leading political figure, I want to underscore that foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country.

I have been disgusted to see some on social media praising, rationalizing, or making light of the event, and have directed our consular officials to undertake appropriate action. Please feel free to bring such comments by foreigners to my attention so that the @StateDept can protect the American people.”

His remarks immediately drew reactions from users who began flagging posts allegedly made by foreigners residing in the US, urging that their visas be revoked.

Landau encouraged the reporting and promised swift reviews.

He said users should reply to him directly with screenshots of such posts so the State Department could take action.

Kirk, a 31-year-old close ally of former US President Donald Trump and well-known conservatist, was gunned down on Wednesday while delivering a speech at a Utah university.
