President Bola Tinubu is facing fresh backlash after telling French President Emmanuel Macron he is having a good time in France, despite worsening economic hardship and insecurity back home.
Tinubu, who jetted out on September 4 for yet another working vacation, smiled as Macron asked if he was enjoying his stay.
“Are you enjoying your time in France?” Macron asked. Tinubu replied, “Oh yes,” in a video shared online by his media aide, Dada Olusegun.
Olusegun captioned the clip, “President Tinubu’s working visit to President Macron of France, where matters of mutual interests were discussed.”
But back in Nigeria, critics are not amused. Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi accused Tinubu of abandoning the country’s problems while globe-trotting.
“It does look like Mr President is running away from Nigeria at every slight opportunity. And one would wonder why so much of his two years in office has been spent on holidays or away from the very country he was elected to preside over,” Obi said in a September 5 statement.
