The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Mauritania’s Moussa Diou as referee for the CAF Champions League first round, first-leg encounter between DR Congo’s FC Les Aigles du Congo and Nigeria’s Rivers United.

CAF confirmed that the highly anticipated fixture will be officiated by an all-Mauritanian team, led by central referee Moussa Diou. He will be joined by assistant referees Kalidou Ba and Adberrahmane Anne, while Dahane Beida has been appointed as the fourth official.
The commissioning duties for the tie have been assigned to Antonio Esono Maquina Bindang from Equatorial Guinea, ensuring full oversight from CAF representatives.

The “Eagles of Congo” will host the “Pride of Nigeria” on Saturday, September 20, at the iconic Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. local time, which coincides with 3:30 p.m. in Nigeria.
Rivers United will be aiming to secure a strong result away from home before the return leg in Port Harcourt, as both sides battle for a place in the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition.

The appointment of experienced international officials is expected to provide credibility and balance to the contest, which already promises high drama given the pedigree and ambitions of both clubs.
