Authorities in Utah County have filed seven charges against 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the murder of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk during a speaking event at Utah Valley University last week, with prosecutors confirming they will seek the death penalty.

Prosecutors announced that Robinson faces multiple charges including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. The charges were detailed in a 10-page filing that outlined substantial evidence tying him to the crime.
According to investigators, Robinson confessed both to his parents and his roommate following the fatal shooting and left behind DNA evidence on the trigger of the rifle used to kill Kirk. This evidence, prosecutors argued, leaves little doubt about Robinson’s role in the attack.

Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative media personality and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University, an incident that shocked audiences both in Utah and nationwide.

Robinson appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday, where prosecutors formally announced their intention to pursue the death penalty. The court has not yet set a trial date, but officials say the case will proceed with urgency given the gravity of the allegations.

Utah County authorities have described the killing as both premeditated and politically charged, though investigators have not yet publicly disclosed a possible motive. The defense has not issued a statement. The case is expected to draw national attention as it proceeds through Utah’s courts.
