Cybersecurity advocate Ugochukwu Njubigbo has been shortlisted for the Community Leadership and Empowerment Award at the upcoming Black History Month Gala Awards 2025, in recognition of his dedication, impact, and contributions to the Black healthcare community.

According to a statement made available to The PUNCH, the Black History Month Gala Awards, regarded as a prestigious annual celebration, honour outstanding Black champions across the healthcare sector. This year’s ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Concorde Conference Centre, The Runway Visitor Park, Altrincham.

The evening will feature a drinks reception, live performances, a talent spotlight, community and organisational awards, and a three-course dinner.

Njubigbo, who currently serves on the industry advisory board at the University of Bolton (now the University of Greater Manchester), supports academicians by reviewing school curricula for cybersecurity. He advises on industry-focused coursework designed to better prepare students for careers in the cybersecurity job market, bridging the gap between academia and industry.

His recognition at the Gala Awards follows earlier achievements. In February 2025, Njubigbo was nominated for the Cyber Associate Network Awards within NHS England, a nod to his contributions and commitment to protecting data and information across the healthcare sector.

Reflecting on his nomination, the organisers noted that Njubigbo’s work demonstrates excellence in leadership, empowerment, innovation, and advocacy, the very values celebrated by the awards.

The nomination also highlights his consistent efforts to inspire communities and professionals alike by combining his cybersecurity expertise with a passion for healthcare transformation.

The Black History Month Gala Awards encourage nominees to share their recognition widely through media packs provided by organisers. These include branded photo frames for social media, ready-made copy for announcements, and the official Gala flyer. Many organisations traditionally book tables in support of their shortlisted colleagues, and a strong turnout is expected at this year’s event.
