Nigeria’s Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has been confirmed ill, with the Presidency admitting he is “indisposed” and unable to continue official duties.
This follows MUKTV’s earlier publication as from SaharaReporters that the minister suffered a stroke and was flown abroad for urgent treatment.
A top government source described his condition as “very serious,” disclosing that Edun is battling severe paralysis.
“It’s very serious. He may survive, but he can’t get back to work again,” the source said.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso will now lead Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in Washington, DC, which begin Monday, October 13.
According to Onanuga, “Cardoso, as the alternate Governor, replaces the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, who is indisposed.”
He added that the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, will also be part of the delegation.
Security sources, including top DSS officials, confirmed Edun’s critical state, describing him as “extremely ill.”
Despite health concerns, Edun had only recently participated in budget discussions with the Senate on Thursday — a final public appearance before the reported health emergency.
