Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has accused the United States of being the architect of Nigeria’s terrorism nightmare.

Appearing on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Monday, Omokri claimed that America’s intervention in Libya under former U.S. President Barack Obama unleashed a flood of armed mercenaries who destabilised West Africa.

“There’s a moral responsibility on the United States because this problem of terrorism was brought to the doorstep of Nigeria by Barack Obama’s administration,” Omokri declared.

He argued that the death of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi created a vacuum that turned the Sahel into a breeding ground for terrorism.

“If Obama’s administration had not intervened in Libya, Gaddafi wouldn’t have been killed. And if Gaddafi hadn’t been killed and all these foreign mercenaries had not left Libya to come here, there wouldn’t be this terrorism in Nigeria,” he said.

According to Omokri, Nigeria is paying the price for a problem it did not create.

“Nigeria is paying a price for what it didn’t cause. Thankfully, Trump lifted objects and began selling weapons to us, but the US caused these problems, and they need to help us fix them,” he said.
