The Management of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, has suspended its Students’ Union Government (SUG) indefinitely following alleged misconduct that marred the recently concluded 2025 Students’ Week.
In a statement signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, the university described the incidents as “regrettable events” that undermined the values and reputation of the institution.
An emergency management meeting was held on Monday, October 13, where the university reviewed the situation and concluded that the breakdown of order stemmed from poor coordination and weak leadership by the current SUG executives.
As part of the measures taken, the university said the suspension will enable a comprehensive review and restructuring of student representation, with a new framework to promote accountability, inclusiveness, and discipline.
“Individuals found to have acted in ways that misrepresented the university’s core values will face disciplinary action in accordance with existing regulations,” the university said.
“Students whose actions carry criminal implications have already been apprehended and will be handed over to law enforcement for further investigation and possible prosecution.”
Reaffirming its commitment to academic and moral excellence, the management assured that the institution will continue to instill integrity and discipline in its students while upholding the university’s reputation.
