A new obsessive Tinubu-centric political order is sweeping through Edo State as the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has mandated all 18 council chairmen to ensure their officials wear the President-branded caps during official meetings.
The directive, issued by ALGON chairman Sunny Ekpeson on Saturday, follows Governor Monday Okpebholo’s earlier instruction for state officials to publicly display loyalty to President Bola Tinubu by wearing outfits emblazoned with his insignia.
Okpebholo, who credited his election victory to Tinubu’s support, had said, “This could not have happened if we did not have a responsible president. We have done many elections here, and the major problem we have had is that the president is not with us, but today we say thank you.”
According to a statement by Ekpeson’s media aide, Agbukor Lucky Apeakhuye, the directive applies to supervisory councillors, senior special assistants, and special assistants across the 18 local government areas.
Ekpeson said the move is designed to show visible grassroots solidarity with President Tinubu and build political momentum ahead of 2027.
“This is directing all 18 local government chairmen across the state to mandate their officials to wear customised caps bearing President Bola Tinubu’s insignia during official meetings at council secretariats,” he said.
“The pledged 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu from Edo State must not remain a mere aspiration. We must begin to build that momentum from the grassroots now, and this includes symbolic acts that reflect our political commitment.”
He urged council leaders to treat the directive as a matter of political duty, insisting that the unified show of loyalty will deepen cohesion and strengthen Tinubu’s base across the state.
