The immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party will reclaim power in the state in 2027.

Ortom stated this in Makurdi on Friday while hosting members of the PDP G-14 and other stakeholders from the 14 local government areas of the state.

The G-14 comprises PDP elders drawn from the Benue North-East and Benue North-West senatorial districts.

The former governor dismissed reports suggesting he planned to defect from the PDP, describing them as the “work of mischief makers.” He reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and stressed that the PDP would emerge stronger and more united ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ortom said, “What is required of all of us is to remain resolute and work together to build this party. I can assure you that if we remain united, the PDP will reclaim power in the state in the coming election.”

He assured members that he would not contest any elective position in 2027 but would support all PDP candidates to ensure victory.

Ortom also advised all party aspirants to consult widely and not be discouraged by the recent wave of defections to the ruling party.

Speaking at the event, the leader of the PDP G-14, Laha Dzever, who spoke on behalf of the forum, pledged continued support and loyalty to the former governor, commending what he described as Ortom’s purposeful leadership.
