Former Edo State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Mrs. Adaze Uzor-Kalu has formally announced her defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that meaningful transformation cannot be achieved from the periphery of power. “To change a system, you must be part of it,” she said, framing her decision as a strategic and value-based shift aimed at influencing governance outcomes from the inside.
Uzor-Kalu, who also served as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in the immediate past administration reflected on her public service track record, noting that she worked with grassroots communities, women and youth constituencies “with immense passion” and without losing focus despite administrative headwinds. She emphasized that the present political climate demands actors who will ensure policy impact, manage internal dynamics, advance inclusion, strengthen trust and protect the “Edo brand” through credible governance engagement.
According to her, government must continuously leverage all viable political, institutional and public platforms to drive its priorities, especially in a context where caucus transitions require deliberate balancing to create room for diversity, equity and inclusion. She described her move as “venturing into uncharted waters to create the change we wish to see,” adding that the decision also aligns with a shared political direction with her husband within the APC.
The technocrat, democrat and daughter of the soil reaffirmed that the objective is not partisan self-preservation but the advancement of state and national development through an organised platform capable of implementation and scale. “Our focus and aspiration is to move our various states and Nigeria forward together,” she declared.
