Taraba’s politics is heating up as Governor Agbu Kefas is reportedly on the verge of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move his camp says will catapult the state into a new era of development.
Confirming the growing speculation, Josiah Kente, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters and Special Duties, said Kefas’ possible defection is a strategic masterstroke aimed at plugging Taraba into the heart of national development.
He dismissed claims that the move was motivated by personal ambition, insisting it’s about “the collective interest of Tarabans.”
“This call is anchored not on partisan interest but on the collective aspiration of the people of Taraba for sustainable progress, infrastructural transformation, and inclusion in national affairs,” Kente declared.
According to him, aligning with the APC will open federal doors for Taraba; from roads and bridges to hospitals and power projects.
“With the Governor’s alignment to the ruling party, Taraba stands to benefit from increased federal presence such as roads, bridges, hospitals, and power installations which are currently concentrated in states with stronger federal ties,” he said.
Kente praised Kefas as a bold and visionary leader whose Moving Forward agenda deserves full federal support.
“It is only fitting that such visionary leadership is supported by the enabling political environment at the national level. The times call for bold, strategic decisions that transcend party sentiment in favour of the people’s welfare,” Kente added.
He urged Taraba’s political stakeholders, youth groups, and community leaders to rally behind the governor in what he called a “realignment for growth and prosperity.”
Elected on the PDP platform in 2023, Kefas’ possible switch to the APC would end the PDP’s 26-year dominance in Taraba, a state long considered one of the party’s most reliable strongholds since 1999.
Insiders say pressure has been mounting in recent weeks from groups and political figures urging Kefas to cross over to the ruling party to “bring more federal presence home.”
