Panic engulfed Kebbi State on Friday night as gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Muhammed Samaila Bagudo, moments after observing prayers at a local mosque in Bagudo town.

The heavily armed attackers reportedly stormed the area, fired sporadically, and seized the lawmaker at gunpoint before whisking him away to an unknown location.

Police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, has ordered a full-scale manhunt for the kidnappers.

“In view of the unfortunate incident, we have formed a strong rescue team and they are already combing bushes and forest to rescue him unhurt,” Abubakar said.

Security forces, including the Army and vigilante groups, have since launched a coordinated rescue mission across nearby forests and border communities.

The police urged residents to stay calm and cooperate with security agencies, assuring that every resource was being deployed to ensure the lawmaker’s safe return.
