The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) plunged deeper into crisis on Monday as angry supporters loyal to the party’s National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, stormed its national secretariat in Abuja, demanding the immediate resignation of the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC).

Chanting solidarity songs, the protesters flooded the Wadata Plaza headquarters, accusing the current leadership of mismanaging party affairs and pledging allegiance to the Abdulrahman-led faction.

The protest came just days after Abdulrahman was declared Acting National Chairman, following the suspension of the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, for one month—a move that has further deepened the PDP’s leadership crisis.

In a swift counteraction, the faction loyal to Anyanwu held a separate meeting in Abuja, announcing the suspension of the Damagum-led NWC, intensifying the internal battle for control.

Security operatives have since taken over the secretariat to forestall a breakdown of law and order as both sides jostle for dominance.

The power struggle, described by insiders as the “worst internal meltdown” in recent years, has left the party’s national structure hanging by a thread.
