Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has pledged to deliver an overwhelming victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, promising to work closely with party leaders to secure 99 percent of the votes.
Diri made the declaration on Monday in Yenagoa, the state capital, during his official defection to the ruling party.
“I am not a bossy type. I have come to unite us so that we can work together and produce a 99 per cent result in Bayelsa come 2027. I don’t know the opposition from the other side,” he said.
“There is so much we can do together by aligning with the federal government that has shown us the will and direction that they love the people of Bayelsa state.
“Don’t let anybody deceive you; anybody telling you otherwise is for their own selfish purposes. A lot of people were afraid that there might be factions in the APC.”
Diri’s defection marks a major political twist in Bayelsa’s landscape, signaling a new alliance between the state government and the federal ruling party ahead of the next general elections.
