After months of defiance, the leader of Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has finally caved in, complying with the Federal High Court’s order to open his defence in the terrorism charges filed against him by the Federal Government.
Inside the Abuja courtroom, Kanu was seen filing his defence documents under the close watch of Justice James Omotosho, who had ordered the process to be completed without further delay.
Following Kanu’s persistent complaints about access to court facilities, the judge directed that the court’s registry be temporarily relocated to his courtroom to allow immediate filing.
Counsel to the Federal Government, Adegboyega Awomolo, confirmed readiness to receive Kanu’s defence papers right there in the courtroom and to respond in due course.
At the time of this report, the filing was still ongoing, with Justice Omotosho standing down proceedings for one hour.
Kanu, who had previously refused to open his defence, had insisted he must first be shown the specific terrorism law he allegedly violated before doing so.
