Some security experts have urged the newly appointed service chiefs to be discreet about their strategies to combat insurgency and terrorism across the country.

One of the experts, Jackson Ojo, noted that terrorists and their sponsors had their ears and eyes on the ground.

The call comes amid Nigerians’ growing expectations from the new service chiefs over the nation’s security challenges.

President Bola Tinubu recently announced a shake-up in the nation’s security architecture, sacking the former service chiefs and appointing new ones about two weeks ago.

Speaking with Sunday PUNCH, Ojo, a member of the International Security Association, Switzerland, said, “The service chiefs must not make the mistake of publicising their security strategies because criminal elements listen to the radio, read newspapers, and monitor television broadcasts.

“Every loophole must be filled to prevent criminals from wreaking havoc on our beloved nation.”

Ojo also emphasised the importance of inter-agency collaboration and intelligence sharing, urging the security agencies to work together in the fight against insurgency.

Similarly, the Founder and Managing Director of Beacon Security and Intelligence Limited, Kabir Adamu, advised the security chiefs to avoid making promises they might struggle to keep.

“They (service chiefs) should not make promises that are beyond them to fulfil. There are a lot of expectations from the government, the Nigerian people, and even the international community. The truth is that the service chiefs are just a small component of the entire national security enterprise.
