Controversial cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has broken his silence after viral claims that he fled Nigeria to Turkey to dodge a possible U.S. invasion ordered by President Donald Trump.

The rumours intensified after photos of Gumi surfaced online showing him in Turkey, sparking speculation that he had taken off before Trump’s alleged strike on terrorists accused of killing Christians.

Social media went wild with taunts and mockery.

@KizyUzoma posted, “Nigeria terrorists spokesman Sheikh Gumi Reportedly Flees To Turkey. Finally, Gumi has fled to Turkey, leaving behind wassaping and other terrorists sympathisers behind. The fear of President Trump.”

@GeneralSnow_ added, “So Gumi don run go Turkey? Ok na. He passed through our immigration abi? Ok na.”

@VivianRora joined in: “Gumi has fled to Turkey, leaving behind wassaping and other terrorist sympathisers. The fear of Trump.”

Speaking from Turkey, he said his trip had nothing to do with Trump’s threats.

He posted receipts on Facebook, saying, *“I got my Turkish visa on the 16th October 2025, and Trump’s irresponsible tweet lying about ‘Christian genocide’ in Nigeria was on the 1st Nov. 2025. Yet, because of melancholy, they concoct lies and believe them. Trump has no power over us; it’s just your sick mind bowing down to him in worship.”

Still firing, Gumi accused Trump and his supporters of spreading hate against Islam.

“After the fog has cleared. The alleged ‘Christian genocide’ in Nigeria is all about a well-drawn-out plan to attack the Shariah Law and Islamophobia,” he wrote.

The cleric said Trump’s “lies” have emboldened unpatriotic citizens bent on dividing Nigeria.

“We can’t be deceived anymore,” he added.

Gumi even claimed that fake massacres are being staged to push the genocide narrative.

“A Doctor wrote me: Do you know that some Middle Belt Christian groups are now staging fake mass killings? They are burying empty coffins and recording the process as if real victims were killed, just to push the narrative of a Christian genocide. This is desperation at its peak. A disgrace. Manipulating information just to provoke hatred and international sympathy?”

Closing his rant, Gumi warned Nigerians not to fall for foreign propaganda.

“Trump lied before that Israel attacked Iran unilaterally. These people are dangerously deceptive. Continue to trust them at your own peril.”
