Representative Brad Sherman, 71, has responded after photographs circulated showing him looking at images of women in lingerie during a recent flight, a moment that quickly went viral online.
Sherman’s spokesperson clarified the incident, explaining that the congressman was simply browsing his Twitter (now X) feed and had no intention of viewing sensitive or suggestive material. “This was nothing more than scrolling through Twitter and unfortunately, Elon Musk has ruined the algorithm, giving users content they didn’t ask for or subscribe to,” the statement read.
The ongoing changes to the X platform’s feed algorithm, which now leans heavily on artificial intelligence, have led to increased complaints of unwanted and random posts showing on users’ timelines.
Criticism of Twitter’s algorithm has grown since Elon Musk acquired the company, with users and creators reporting more frequent exposure to non-curated or irrelevant material, despite personal interests or subscriptions. Sherman maintains he was not deliberately seeking out these images and called for improved user control and transparency in social media algorithms.
