The Federal Government has pledged to ensure the safe return of female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, following a gunmen attack that also claimed the life of a school official.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this in a statement issued via his verified X handle on Monday, titled “FG vows swift rescue of abducted Kebbi schoolgirls, reaffirms duty to protect citizens.”
Idris said the government expressed deep concern for the victims, emphasising that it shares in their pain and is committed to bringing the girls home safely.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has reiterated that protecting every Nigerian, especially schoolchildren, remains a solemn responsibility of the State,” the statement read.
The minster also condemned the attack, describing it as “reprehensible,” and stressed that security and intelligence agencies have been given clear directives to locate and rescue the abducted students.
“We will not relent until these students are safely returned and the perpetrators face justice,” the statement added.
On efforts to prevent future attacks, the minister said strengthening internal security remains a top priority for the Federal Government.
