Russia has publicly declared the delivery of its first two Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jets to an undisclosed foreign client, marking a significant milestone in the export history of its advanced combat aircraft. According to United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) CEO Vadim Badekha, the jets are already in service with the customer, who is reportedly satisfied with their performance but the recipient country has not been officially named.
Nevertheless, leaked documents from Russia’s defense industry and numerous defense media reports strongly point to Algeria as the likely buyer. Algeria has long maintained robust military cooperation with Moscow and operates several Russian aircraft models.
The Su-57 fighters delivered are believed to be of the export variant (Su-57E), which was publicly showcased at the Dubai Airshow 2025, stirring further speculation about the North African country’s involvement.
Recent leaks reveal that Algeria is expected to receive an initial batch of two Su-57Es, with further deliveries possible under an expanded contract.
Algerian state media hinted at the imminent arrival of these jets in early 2025, and they are thought to be already integrated into operational service. Neither Russia nor Algeria has formally confirmed the deal, but the combination of evidence has left defense analysts convinced Algeria is the first foreign operator of the Su-57.
