Apple Poised to Overtake Samsung as World’s Largest Smartphone Manufacturer, Says Counterpoint Research
Apple is projected to become the world’s top smartphone maker this year, ending Samsung’s 14-year reign, according to new data released by research firm Counterpoint.
Market forecasts indicate Apple will achieve a 19.4% global market share in smartphone shipments for 2025, while Samsung will hold approximately 18%. This milestone is attributed to a surge in demand for the newly released iPhone 17 series, which has performed strongly in markets like the United States, China, and emerging economies.
Experts also note that the global replacement cycle, combined with consumers upgrading devices purchased during the pandemic, is driving growth.
Apple’s shipments are predicted to grow by 10% this year, outpacing Samsung’s estimated 4.6% increase. Counterpoint’s analysts expect Apple to maintain its top spot through 2029, propelled by upcoming innovations such as a foldable iPhone and the introduction of more budget-friendly models.
The shift underscores Apple’s long-standing dominance in revenue and its strategic push into high-end and mid-tier segments, while Samsung continues to offer a wide range of devices across different price points.
