President Bola Tinubu has fired off a fresh request to the Senate, urging lawmakers to rapidly screen and confirm his three top choices for non-career ambassadorial postings.
The nominees, Kayode Are (Ogun), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa), and Ayodele Oke (Oyo), were unveiled in a letter dramatically read on the Senate floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Tinubu stressed that the selections were made in line with Section 171 (1), (2)(c) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), pressing senators to “consider and confirm the appointments of the nominees expeditiously,” while extending his “assurances of highest consideration.”
With no time to waste, Akpabio immediately dispatched the nominees to the Senator Sani Bello-led Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, directing the panel to scrutinise the list and report back within one week.
