Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, and his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday presented their 2026 budget proposals to their respective Houses of Assembly, outlining spending plans aimed at boosting development and sustaining growth.

In Kebbi, Governor Idris unveiled a N642.93bn budget, tagged “Budget of Growth, Transformation and Physical Development”, allocating N479.5bn to capital expenditure and N163.57bn to recurrent spending.

He said the plan prioritises agriculture—the backbone of Kebbi’s economy—through modern inputs, expanded irrigation, and support for rural farmers to strengthen food security.

Idris also highlighted youth and women empowerment programs, particularly skills acquisition initiatives designed to promote self-reliance and reduce unemployment.

This budget harmonises our transformation agenda with projects that reach the grassroots,” he said, urging continued public support.

The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Mohammed Zuru, commended the governor for the early submission of the estimates and assured that lawmakers would review and return the budget within a week.

Zuru also praised the cordial working relationship between the executive and legislature, noting it as an improvement over previous administrations.

The 2026 budget marks the latest push by the Idris administration to accelerate development in key sectors following increased investment in agriculture, education, and infrastructure over the past year.

Meanwhile, in Bauchi, Governor Bala Mohammed presented a N878.1bn Appropriation Bill during a special session at the International Conference Centre, Bauchi.

The budget, titled “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability,” aims to consolidate ongoing reforms while responding to emerging economic challenges.
