Fear has gripped Ungwan Nungu in Bokana Ward, Sanga LGA, after armed men stormed the area and abducted 11 farmers returning home from their fields on Saturday evening.
The attackers laid in wait along a narrow bush path, pouncing on the unsuspecting villagers and marching them into the forest.
The raid sent fears through nearby communities, where families spent the night in terror, unsure of the fate of their loved ones.
A resident who spoke anonymously said several of the victims were teenagers simply gathering beans when the gunmen struck.
“About 15 people were initially targeted. Some managed to escape, while others were released unconditionally. However, 11 remain in captivity, and the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of five million naira,” he said.
The outrage reached the National Assembly as Hon. Daniel Amos, member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency, condemned the assault in the strongest terms, calling it “cruel and senseless.”
“I strongly condemn this act. Targeting peaceful community members is unacceptable and must not be tolerated under any circumstance,” he said.
He urged residents across Ungwan Nungu and surrounding settlements to remain calm and avoid panic-driven reactions that could escalate tensions.
Amos also pressed security agencies to step up and strike fast.
“We expect intensified surveillance, intelligence-driven operations, and a swift, coordinated response that reassures our people of their safety,” he added.
