Governor Alex Otti’s heavily promoted “fight for Nnamdi Kanu” has plummeted under fresh revelations, showing his Aso Rock visit had nothing to do with the imprisoned IPOB leader, Maazi Nnamdi Kanu but everything to do with saving his own political skin in 2027.

Despite the dramatic optics created by Otti’s media handlers, beginning with his emotional visit to the IPOB leader at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, the entire sequence was staged to mislead the public and mask the governor’s real mission.

Sources say the strategy was simple: generate sympathy, stir public emotions, and create a diversion before heading to Aso Rock.

But inside the Villa, Nnamdi Kanu’s name reportedly never formed part of the core discussions.

The meeting, which was only the second private audience Otti has secured with President Tinubu since May 29, 2023, carried deep political significance.

Their relationship has long been strained. Tinubu had repeatedly shunned several invitations to Abia State, opting instead to send lower-ranking officials, a development seen as a political snub.

This frosty history explains why Otti’s team quietly celebrated Monday’s meeting. Their excitement stemmed not from any breakthrough for Nnamdi Kanu, but from finally securing long-elusive access to the President.

Insider accounts reveal that Otti used the visit to pledge loyalty to Tinubu and declare his support for the President’s 2027 re-election bid.

The governor also expressed his willingness to align politically with Tinubu ahead of the next electoral cycle, directly contradicting the narrative pushed by his media team.

More revelations point to Otti’s broader political recalibration.

For months, rumours have swirled that he plans to dump the Labour Party.

With APGA leaders confirming contact, the governor is believed to be preparing a defection that could reshape Abia’s political map.

Sources say Otti briefed the President on this planned move to APGA and sought strategic backing.

If he executes the defection, it would mark a dramatic departure from Peter Obi and the Obidient movement that powered his 2023 victory.

Analysts say the picture is now clear, highlighting Otti’s high-profile visit to Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto was a decoy.

His meeting with Tinubu had nothing to do with the detained IPOB leader. It was a survival mission, a carefully crafted political repositioning ahead of 2027.
