President Bola Tinubu has dropped a new list of heavyweight Nigerians for top ambassadorial roles, including Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, former naval chief and ex-Rivers State administrator, and Abdulrahman Dambazau, former minister of interior and ex-chief of army staff.
The president also picked Ita Enang, former senator, and Chioma Ohakim, former Imo State first lady, in a move that was absent from the earlier batch of nominees.
The nominations were formally announced in a letter read on the Senate floor by Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary. In the letter, President Tinubu urged lawmakers to fast-track approval to fill critical diplomatic posts.
Akpabio immediately referred the names to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, directing them to wrap up screening and report back within a week.
This latest rollout follows Tinubu’s earlier ambassadorial nominations of Reno Omokri, former presidential aide; Femi Fani-Kayode, former aviation minister; and Mahmood Yakubu, former INEC chairman.
