Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in London for a meeting with European leaders at Downing Street. He is expected in Brussels and Rome later after talks in Miami between US and Ukrainian negotiators came to a halt Saturday with no breakthrough, according to Ukrainian officials.
• The summit comes after US President Donald Trump claimed Zelensky had not yet read the latest US proposal to end the war, adding he was a “little disappointed” in the Ukrainian leader.
• Meanwhile, Russia has praised the US’ new national security strategy, released last week. It took an confrontational posture toward Europe, blaming officials on the continent for blocking US-backed efforts to end the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said territorial issues are among those yet to be resolved in talks between Ukrainian and US officials over the Trump administration’s peace plan.
Speaking today before his arrival at Downing Street in the last 30 minutes, Zelensky told Bloomberg News that elements of the US plan required further discussion, including “sensitive issues” such as security guarantees for Ukraine and control over its eastern regions.
His remarks followed a claim by President Donald Trump yesterday that he was “a little bit disappointed that President Zelensky hasn’t yet read the proposal — that was as of a few hours ago.”
Zelensky said the talks with the US had yet to reach agreement on the future of Ukraine’s Donbas, which includes the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
