A political change of guard is looming in Plateau State as Governor Caleb Mutfwang edges closer to dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with insiders revealing the defection could be sealed before January 2026 ends, MUK TV has learnt.

Top sources say Mutfwang has already made up his mind to abandon the crisis-ridden PDP, which has sunk into its worst internal meltdown in years.

According to The cable, President Bola Tinubu has personally met with Mutfwang and given a green light for his move to the APC, in what is a powerful endorsement from the top.

But the governor’s imminent crossover is rattling the Plateau APC.

Some party members, many of whom also defected from the PDP, are threatening to stage a dramatic return to the opposition if Mutfwang is allowed into the APC’s ranks.

APC National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, himself a Plateau son, has been holding frantic meetings with aggrieved stakeholders to clear the road for Mutfwang’s entry.

In October 2025, during a packed event at the Government House banquet hall in Jos, Mutfwang admitted he was under heavy pressure to defect, but insisted only divine instruction and the will of his people would direct him.

“But I told them that only two people can authorise me to change my party — one is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people. Have you asked me to go anywhere?” he asked, drawing a roaring “No” from the crowd.

The PDP’s collapse continues to gather pace nationwide.

Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke quit the party this week and joined Accord, while Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas nearly crossed to the APC in November before insecurity forced a postponement of his reception.

With Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara now in its corner, the APC controls 26 states.

States still outside its grip include Abia, Adamawa, Anambra, Bauchi, Kano, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, and Zamfara.
