Panic hit Yenagoa on Thursday as Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, reportedly collapsed in his office and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.
The disturbing incident happened around 1:30 pm, sending aides and security operatives into a frenzy.
Eyewitnesses said the deputy governor appeared gravely ill as he was whisked into the hospital’s emergency unit.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo is now stabilised in the ICU, though sources hinted the scare could be linked to a cardiac emergency.
A source close to him said, “He’s a workaholic; he should find time to rest.”
Security has cordoned off the hospital, and top government officials rushed in to check on him.
Attempts to reach his media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, for comment were unsuccessful. Hospital insiders, however, assured the public that Ewhrudjakpo is receiving top-notch care and is stable.
The shocking health scare has left the state on edge as residents and officials pray for his swift recovery.
