Former coach, Claude Le Roy, has expressed his doubts over the true strength of the Super Eagles attack after they failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Le Roy is concerned about the few goals scored by Nigeria during the qualifying series.

Nigeria played 12 games in all and were only able to score 20 goals and Le Roy pointed out that these goals were scored against weaker teams.

He told Canal +, “When you don’t qualify for the World Cup and you are Nigeria. I’m not impressed by the statistics of 20 goals in 12 matches with the offensive potential they have.”

The veteran French coach, who won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1988, said the goals scored by Nigeria were not “against irresistible teams but Benin and Gabon so we need to put things into perspective.”

The 77-year-old said that the Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle would have had a better approach to the upcoming AFCON had Nigeria booked a ticket to the World Cup.

The elimination handicaps him greatly in his preparation for this Afcon,” he added.

Nigeria is expected to finish top of Group C of the Africa Cup of Nations where they will face Uganda, Tanzania and Tunisia.
