The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is expected to apprehend three additional Ghanaian social media influencers suspected of engaging in internet fraud in the coming days, according to Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Hon. Sam George.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, the Minister revealed that the FBI has been working closely with Ghanaian security agencies to track individuals allegedly involved in large-scale cyber scams targeting victims in the United States and Europe.
“The collaboration between our government and U.S. authorities has been ongoing for months,” Sam George stated. “These individuals use social media to flaunt ill-gotten wealth, but investigators have gathered strong evidence linking them to online scam networks.”
The latest move follows a string of high-profile arrests in recent months involving influencers accused of “Yahoo Yahoo” activities, a local term for internet fraud. Authorities say the operation aims to dismantle organized online fraud cells that have tarnished Ghana’s international image.
Officials declined to release the names of the three suspects pending further investigation but assured the public that due process will be observed in the arrests and subsequent extradition procedures.
