The Senate today confirmed 64 ambassadorial nominees forwarded to it by President Bola Tinubu for approval, including former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, and ex-presidential aide, Reno Omokri.

The confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, which stated that all nominees were duly screened and found qualified to represent Nigeria in various foreign missions.
Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, who presented the report, said the screening exercise assessed the nominees’ competence, professional background, and understanding of foreign policy. He urged the Senate to confirm them, noting that their appointments would strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence globally.

The confirmation came just two days after the upper chamber approved three non-career ambassadorial nominees  Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun State), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa State), and Emmanuel Ayodele Oke (Oyo State) — bringing the total number of confirmed ambassadors under the Tinubu administration to 67.

Other notable names on the list include former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau; former presidential aide and ex-lawmaker, Ita Enang; and former senator, Grace Bent.
With the confirmation, the nominees are expected to receive their letters of commission and await posting from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the coming days.
