FG Declares December 25, 26, and January 1 Public Holidays for Christmas and New Year Celebrations
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 25 and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day, respectively, as well as Thursday, January 1, 2026, for the New Year celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, who stated that the holidays are in recognition of the Christian festive season and the beginning of a new year. The government extended warm greetings to Christians and all Nigerians, urging them to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the country.
Citizens were also encouraged to reflect on the values of love, tolerance, and selflessness demonstrated during the Christmas season, while reaffirming their commitment to national development. Security agencies and relevant authorities have been directed to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration across the country.
