President Donald Trump has announced that he has approved a plan for the U.S. Navy to begin constructing two new battleships — described as the largest ever built by the United States.

Speaking from the White House, Trump said it was his “great honor as Commander-in-Chief” to authorize the construction, which he called a major step in strengthening America’s naval power. The president emphasized that the ships would represent a new generation of U.S. maritime dominance, referring to them as “very large” and “the largest we’ve ever built.”

Details about the design, cost, and shipyards involved have not yet been released, but defense analysts expect the program could significantly expand the Navy’s capabilities. The announcement reflects Trump’s continued focus on military modernization and defense spending as key pillars of national security policy.
