Vince Zampella, the acclaimed video game developer best known as a co-creator of Call of Duty and a driving force behind Titanfall, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi, has died in a car accident near Los Angeles.

Authorities confirmed that Zampella, 55, was killed late Monday night when his Ferrari went off Angeles Crest Highway, a mountainous stretch known for sharp turns and high-speed accidents. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road before catching fire. Emergency responders arrived at the scene but were unable to save him.

Zampella was a towering figure in the gaming industry, having co-founded Infinity Ward, the studio behind the Call of Duty franchise, before later establishing Respawn Entertainment, which produced Titanfall and Apex Legends. Under his leadership, Respawn also developed the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi series for Electronic Arts.

Fans and colleagues across the gaming world have begun sharing tributes online, praising Zampella’s vision, creativity, and decades-long influence on modern interactive entertainment.
