Sunday Jackson, once sentenced to death for defending himself against an attacker in Adamawa State, has regained his freedom after years of legal battles.

Sunday Jackson, a resident of Adamawa community, was convicted by the Supreme Court for killing a herdsman during what he described as an act of self-defense. The incident occurred several years ago when Jackson was confronted by the herdsman, leading to a violent altercation that turned fatal.

After multiple appeals, recent legal reviews found inconsistencies in the initial judgment, prompting his release. Advocacy groups and human rights organizations have long argued that Jackson’s case highlighted deep concerns about self-defense laws and access to fair trials in rural Nigeria.

Jackson expressed relief upon his release, thanking his supporters and legal team for their persistence. His case continues to stir public debate over justice and the right to self-defense in the country.
