Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has opened up on the emotional inspiration behind his headline-grabbing celebration after scoring Nigeria’s second goal in the pulsating 3–2 victory over Tunisia.
Nigeria struck first just before half-time through Victor Osimhen, before Ndidi and Ademola Lookman widened the gap in the second half. Tunisia, however, staged a late fightback with two goals in quick succession, piling pressure on the Super Eagles before Nigeria held their nerve to clinch the dramatic win.
Speaking after the match, Ndidi revealed that his celebration was a deeply personal tribute, inspired by memories of his father and Nigerian football legend, Nwankwo Kanu.
“I just remembered my dad. My dad always talk about Kanu and all, and I saw the video, and said I would do that for him.”
The goal carried extra weight for the Besiktas midfielder, marking his first strike for Nigeria in 10 years, a moment he described as unforgettable.
“It was really special, after a decade, it was amazing, and we got the win, which is the most important.”
For Ndidi, the goal, the celebration, and the victory combined into a night of emotion, legacy, and relief, one that will live long in Super Eagles folklore.
