Nigeria coach Eric Chelle praised his team’s performance after the Super Eagles survived a late Tunisian rally to grab a thrilling 3-2 victory in Fez on Saturday night, booking their place in the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The contest appeared firmly in Nigeria’s control after they raced into a commanding 3-0 lead, with standout contributions from Ademola Lookman, who supplied two assists and scored a superb left-footed strike in the 66th minute.
Reflecting on the match, Chelle emphasised the intensity his team displayed for the first 75 minutes. He said he was pleased with how the Eagles recovered the ball both high up the pitch and deep, allowing them to move quickly into attack while retaining possession for long spells.
“I’m happy, once again, with the intensity we showed for 75 minutes. I’m pleased with how we recovered the ball both very high up the pitch and very deep. We were able to move forward quickly, but also to keep possession for long periods of the game,” he noted.
